A quiet area in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg, and the ski resort of the same name, lies just a short way from the border with Liechtenstein and Switzerland. It will win you over with its relaxed atmosphere.
Brandnertal in summer:
Do you enjoy high-mountain hiking? Then Brandnertal is the right place for you. You can choose from about 400 km of well-marked hiking trails. Keen cyclists can test their strength and skill on a mountain bike in the well-known Brandnertal bike park. There are several levels to choose from, from easy routes to demanding ones. Not drawn to hiking or cycling? That is no problem. There is much more here: you can play golf, swim in the natural bathing pool, ride a horse, try paragliding or even canyoning.
Something extra:
If you plan to use the cable cars, the Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse mountain road, the swimming pools, public transport and more without limit in the summer season, the Brandnertal card is worth buying.
Brandnertal in winter:
Do you want quiet winter fun, a pleasant ski area with no queues, or just the view of steep mountain peaks? You can have all of it here. Buy a ski pass, ride the cable car up to two thousand metres above sea level and enjoy a fine run down. The ski area is open to visitors from December to March. Cross-country skiers are well served too, with more than 30 km of groomed trails. Children and non-skiers will appreciate the 6 km toboggan run. And when winter sports lose their appeal, why not try a dog-sled ride, a horse ride or even climbing a frozen waterfall? There is plenty to choose from.
Accommodation in the area
You can stay in one of the hotels or Berghütten, but many of the places on offer are family-run Pensionen. Campsites are available for bikers and for anyone of an adventurous nature.
Typical food in the area
The food here is strongly influenced by neighbouring Switzerland, so cheese and cheese specialities are always on the menu. „Käsespätzle“ (cheese noodles), cheese soup and cheese dumplings are particularly good. If you have a sweet tooth, you will enjoy the fried doughnuts called „Funkenküchle“.
