The best place for a holiday

Discover the range of activities that fill this well-known Austrian holiday region. In the widest part of the Zillertal valley, bathed in sun for most of the year and surrounded by pure mountain nature, Fügen is an ideal base for a family holiday full of fun and memorable experiences.

Fügen in winter: skiing and rest for the whole family

In the centre of Fügen, board the cable car and let it carry you 2,000 metres up to the Spieljoch ski centre. It has the longest piste in the Zillertal and runs where you can test your skiing at your own pace. Your children will learn on special training slopes, or under experienced instructors at one of the many ski schools. Reward their effort with a fine toboggan descent, or an afternoon at the Erlebnistherme Zillertal water park. They have the longest descent here too, this time on a water slide, plus a flood of hot whirlpool water and saunas of every kind. Open in summer as well!

Fügen in summer: an endless world of experiences and adventure

Take the Spieljochbahn cable car to the summit of Spieljoch and bring good boots, a backpack and a bike. The area has over 400 km of mountain and climbing routes and 250 km of cycle trails, all with fine views. You may not reach them, though – the mountain offers so much fun! Right by the station, set off barefoot up the sensory trail and enjoy the games at the special water playground. Or try mining your own minerals at the nearby Kristallpark and then slide down the zip line, several hundred metres long. On the way you may catch sight of herds of brightly decorated cows walking down into the valley from the sunlit pastures. The famous Almabtrieb festival – the ideal way to end the summer.

Accommodation in the area

In Fügen you can stay in top mountain hotels of the highest standard, and equally in cosy family Pensionen and huts with a traditional feel. In summer, park in the camping zone and bring your dog along. Plenty of local places will be glad to welcome it.

Local food and drink

Excellent Tyrolean lamb, delicious cheeses from local cows, or the sweetest desserts that smell of tradition from afar. That is typical Tyrolean cooking, and you will certainly enjoy it in Fügen. Do not miss the fine soup with Graukäse cheese, the herb Kaspressknödl made from cheese dough, or the Zillertal pastries filled (surprisingly) with cheese. There is simply never enough cheese here.
