Gerlitzen: skiing with a view of Lake Ossiach

Head to Carinthia for wide pistes, mountain huts and panoramic views over Lake Ossiach (Ossiacher See).

Gerlitzen in winter: pistes above Lake Ossiach

The Gerlitzen Alpe rises directly above Lake Ossiach. The ski area offers 53 km of pistes and views of the Carinthian mountains. You can reach the slopes from the lake at Annenheim or from the other side at Klösterle. The wide runs suit leisure skiers, while children have plenty of room for their first turns. Mountain huts and sunny terraces invite you to take a break. Before you travel, check which lifts and pistes are open under current conditions.

Gerlitzen in summer: mornings in the mountains, afternoons by the water

From the shore of Lake Ossiach, the cable car takes you up to Kanzelhöhe, the starting point for easy walks as well as longer mountain hikes. The Gerlitzen Alpe has 147 km of waymarked hiking trails. Families with children can add the attractions at Kanzelhöhe to their day out, and cyclists can explore the local bike routes. Back from the mountains, there is still time for a swim or a boat trip on the lake.

Gerlitzen – places to stay by the lake and in the mountains

Choose your accommodation according to how you want to spend your holiday. Annenheim and the other villages on Lake Ossiach are convenient for combining the cable car, day trips and summer swimming. Higher up the slopes you will find mountain hotels and huts for a stay close to nature. When choosing winter accommodation, it is worth checking which valley station and which part of the ski area will be closest.

Local cuisine

After a day on the slopes or a mountain hike, try Carinthian cooking in one of the huts on the Gerlitzen Alpe. Local classics include Kärntner Kasnudeln, filled pasta parcels, and the sweet Kaiserschmarrn. They taste best on a terrace overlooking the lake and the surrounding mountains.
