What there is to do in Austria

Much of Austria is mountainous, and what is on offer divides by season. Here is an overview of what this site covers.

Winter

  • Skiing – pistes from family areas to glaciers that run outside the main season.
  • Snowboarding – snow parks with jumps and rails, and freeriding in powder.
  • Cross-country skiing – groomed tracks through mountain valleys and below the glaciers.
  • Ski touring – climbs through open terrain away from the groomed pistes.
  • Tobogganing and skating – floodlit runs and frozen lakes.
  • Après-ski – bars and huts right by the pistes.

Summer

  • Hiking – waymarked trails, mountain huts and peaks above 3,000 m above sea level.
  • Cycling – long-distance cycle routes along the rivers and bike parks in the resorts.
  • Via ferratas – protected routes from the easy to the hardest.
  • Swimming – lakes with water above 25 °C in the main season.

All year round

  • Relaxation and wellness – thermal baths and saunas.
  • Food – regional cooking from Tyrol to Burgenland.
  • Cities – Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz, Linz and Klagenfurt.
