How to get to Austria

By car

The most common way of reaching the Austrian mountains. A motorway vignette applies on motorways and expressways: the annual one costs €106.80 and the ten-day one €12.80 (2026, asfinag.at).

Some tunnels and mountain roads have a toll of their own, which is paid separately. From 1 November to 15 April, winter tyres with a tread depth of at least 4.0 mm are compulsory in wintry conditions.

By train

The Austrian railways ÖBB serve all the larger cities and most of the mountain valleys. Timetables and tickets are on oebb.at.

By bus

Direct long-distance services run to Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. In the resorts they connect with local and ski buses, which are usually free with a valid ski pass or guest card.

By air

There are international airports in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz, Linz and Klagenfurt.

Once you are there

Many resorts offer their guests a travel card with discounts or free transport. Ask about it where you are staying.
