Hiking in Zell am See–Kaprun

Sisi-Rundweg

Difficulty: easy route, suitable for families with children

Route length: 0.9 km

Duration: 30 minutes


One of the shortest hiking trails is the Sisi-Rundweg on the Schmittenhöhe, which is ideal for families with children! 


The start and finish point is the Elisabeth Chapel, which was built in memory of Empress Elisabeth herself, and the trail follows imperial footsteps around the Schmitten summit. In half an hour you have walked around the summit and can stop for coffee and cake in the local Schmitten Café.

Jägersteig und Schmidolins Feuertaufe

Difficulty: easy route, suitable for families with children

Route length: 1.3 km

Duration: 30 minutes


The Jägersteig combined with the Schmidolins Feuertaufe adventure trail is another easy hiking trail suitable for families with children, with varied skill stations. 


The trail starts at the cityXpress mountain station by the Gasthof Mittelstation and first climbs gently in switchbacks across open alpine pastures. It then leads along a romantic, shady forest path to the Glocknerwiese, where the highest E-Motocross Park is located! 


At the very end of the Jägersteig trail you can stop for refreshments in the local AreitAlm restaurant near the areitXpress mountain station!

Mooserboden - Kapruner Törl - Rudolfshütte

Difficulty: difficult route

Route length: 12.5 km

Duration: 7 hours


The popular hiking trail Mooserboden - Kapruner Törl - Rudolfshütte gives you unique views of the Großglockner and the Steinerne Meer. 


The Mooserboden mountain restaurant is the starting point of the hike; it lies by the reservoir of the same name at an altitude of 2,040 metres and is reached by bus or by the inclined lift. 


The hike climbs in switchbacks straight up to the rocky Kapruner Törl, where you are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of the Kaprun valley and the Stubach valley.  


From the Kapruner Törl the trail runs between huge boulders down to the Riffl Kees and on to the Tauern Moosbach. From there it climbs again eastwards on a short walk to the Rudolfshütte (2315 m), where you can make a pleasant stop. 


In the Piesendorf – Uttendorf region you can choose from a total of 83 routes. Here we have  two tips for you.

Piesendorf Panoramaweg 

Difficulty: easy route, suitable for families with children

Route length: 8.7 km

Duration: 4 hours


Piesendorf Panoramaweg - a scenic circular walk around Piesendorf suitable for families with children. 


A themed trail with 10 information boards not only about the Salzachmäander, but also about copper mining, forestry work past and present, the formation of the Hohe Tauern, amphibians and the invention of the frog fence. 


From the village square you turn onto Schmiedstraße, then go left onto Feuerwehrstraße - Windbachgasse and follow the hiking trail to Hauserberg. After about 300 metres you turn right and continue towards the Entfelden farm (Aschach). Then a short stretch along the road, turn right and head back to Piesendorf. 


TIP: At the end you can visit the children’s playground in Piesendorf with your children and, if you pack swimwear, the local Hinkelsteinbad pool right next to the FunPark!

Sonnbergweg

Difficulty: moderate route, suitable for families with children and for mountain bikers

Route length: 10.9 km

Duration: 3 hours 50 minutes


At an altitude of 1,900 metres above sea level you can set out on the hike called Sonnbergweg, which is also suitable for mountain bikers. 


The starting point is Dorfbachstraße, where you turn right and follow Sonnbergstraße towards the Hoferbrücke. There you go left towards Quettensberg - Alpengasthof Liebenberg, then turn right onto a forest road and continue to the Hochsonnbergalm. 


The most important destination on this trail is the Hochsonnbergalm, which you must not miss!


The managed mountain hut Hochsonnbergalm is open to you from June to September and serves home-made alpine specialities that come wholly or partly from its own production. 


And so as not to forget the Niedernsill region, where you can choose from a total of 44 routes, we offer you one of the trails that suits all hikers, including families with children.

Niedernsill - Kraftplatz Naglköpfl - Walchen - Niedernsill

Difficulty: easy route, suitable for families with children

Route length: 9.1 km

Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes

 

The circular route Niedernsill - Kraftplatz Naglköpfl - Walchen - Niedernsill is again one of the easier hikes. 


From Niedernsiller Straße you continue through the underpass to Steindorfer Straße, turn right onto Ematberg and follow the road to the Naglköpflweg junction towards Naglköpfl (one of the first Celtic settlements). 


On the way down you can stop at the Jausenstation Naglbauer, where you can enjoy not only home-made cakes but also home-made products such as bacon, jam and schnapps. 


Refreshed, you can carry on towards Walchen. From Kehlbachgasse you turn right onto Bachweg and right onto Fuchshausstrasse. At the end of the street continue along the marked path back to Niedernsill. 


TIP: The route can also be walked in the opposite direction from Walchen.
