Jarní projížďka na kole pod ledovcem Mölltaler.

The Carinthian Mölltaler Gletscher

The route from Flattach to Mallnitz, just under 20 km away, makes an easy bike trip (for more sporty cyclists). Along the way, admire the stunning scenery of the Hohe Tauern and finish by relaxing in the Tauern Bad water park in Mallnitz. Stay until the evening and enjoy an adventurous night-time “moonlight” sauna. Are you heading to Mölltal with children? Take them to the nearby Affenberg Landskron monkey safari.

The options for trips and hiking around the Carinthian Mölltaler Gletscher are almost endless. The Mölltal valley is rightly considered one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys in Austria. See for yourself and ride through it on the Großglockner – Mölltal – R8 route. The route, 80 km long in total, starts at the impressive Jungfernsprung waterfalls near Heiligenblut, where a handy cycling bus can take you.

Every lover of the sport should try skiing on the sunny Mölltaler glacier at least once in their life. The country’s longest underground funicular, the Gletscher Express, takes you up to 2234 m above sea level in just eight minutes, and a cable car then continues to 3120 m above sea level, from where you race the wind down perfectly groomed pistes.

Cross-country skiing fans also get their money’s worth here; they can polish their technique at the local school or on a 2.5 km circuit (with enough snow, around the top station of the Gletscher Express). While doing so you can enjoy the view of Großglockner, Austria’s highest mountain, and the breathtaking Alpine panorama. You can also eat and rest right on the glacier – at an altitude of 2,800 metres the cable car station also houses the panoramic Eissee restaurant.
