Schwarzsee bei Kitzbühel

Difficulty: easy route, suitable for families with children

Route length: 2.4 km

Duration: 36 minutes

From the car park you walk towards the municipal Schwarzsee lido, then left along the lake. You pass a café and reach the outflow of the Schwarzsee. The path then moves away from the lake.

You can also walk along the shore until you come to a hill overgrown with forest, where you meet the original trail again, leading straight to the bank.

Through the forest you reach the end of the northern side of the lake with its reed belt. You describe an arc around the lake. Then you walk partly on a boardwalk, through the reed belt, move a little   away to the left of the lake, climb through the forest, make a turn and come to Alpenhotel Kitzbühel practically from behind, where you can stop and take a pleasant refreshment.

Finally you return to the road, turn right, take the hiking trail to the left above the road and soon come out of the forest. You turn right to get closer to the shore again, where the peaks of the Wilde Kaiser are beautifully reflected in the lake. Shortly afterwards you arrive at the nearby car park.

Streifwanderung Kitzbühel

Difficulty: moderately difficult route

Route length: 3.9 km

Duration: 2 hours 1 minute

A promising hike in the footsteps of the iconic Hahnenkamm-Rennen ski race.

The hike starts at the Hahnenkammbahn valley station.

The trail runs in the immediate vicinity of the course of the well-known Hahnenkamm-Rennen ski race, across the Streif and up to the Hahnenkamm.

At the end of the route you can reward yourself with good food and drink at the local Hockheckhütte mountain hut or right by the lift station in the Hochkitzbühel - KitzSki restaurant.

Almrunde am Kitzbüheler Horn

Difficulty: moderately difficult route

Route length: 10.2 km

Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes

From the Alpenhaus at the Hornbahn top station (1 670 m) you first walk uphill along the road,  towards Kitzbüheler Horn, until a hiking trail turns off to the left to Hornköpflhütte. From the hut a wide mountain trail leads to Obere Raintalalm (1 561 m).

Soon after the buildings you leave the surfaced road; from this point the trail runs along the eastern side of Kitzbüheler Horn. The real ascent to the summit begins at Rueppenalm (1 511 m) on the northern side of the mountain. In the upper section the route is partly secured with steel cables.

Finally you reach the Gipfelhaus (1 990 m) and the Sendemast (1 996 m) either along the road or by a short hiking trail. The way back is the same as far as the junction to Harschbichl, by which we climbed.

On the way downhill you can visit the alpine flower garden. Then you return along the path to the Alpenhaus at the Hornbahn top station.

Von Kitzbühel nach St. Johann - Kitzbüheler Horn

Difficulty: difficult route

Route length: 17.5 km

Duration: 6 hours 34 minutes

The hike is part of the KAT-Walk route (Kitzbüheler Alpen Trail), but it can also easily be done as a single stage. (The KAT-Walk is a long-distance hiking trail across the Kitzbüheler Alpen)

A great hike, especially at the beginning and at the end of the season!

The route starts at the Hornbahn valley station in Kitzbühel and leads downhill to the Adlerhütte through the district of Going. Above the hut we leave the forest and the hike continues on a high plateau towards Kitzbüheler Horn. At the turn-off to the summit the route leads over Harschbichl down to

St. Johann.
