Turistika v Nassfeldu

A varied area with a number of trails offering beautiful panoramic views, past cosy huts and small bathing lakes, or along flat paths beside the Gail.

Nassfeldpass - Garnitzenalm - Kronalm - Ofenalm - Auernigalm - Nassfeldpass

Difficulty: easy route

Route length: 9.3 km

Duration: 4 hours 15 minutes

An easy cross-border hike leads you across pistes and along the border to small mountain pastures.

From the Nassfeld pass you walk towards Watschiger Alm, past the church to Gasthof Plattner, where path no. 403 turns off towards Garnitzentörl. In about 1 hour you reach the top, pass a pond to the west, with a fine view of the rugged south face of Gartnerkofel, and reach the Garnitzenalm inn.

From Garnitzenalm the trail runs almost due south, to the next summit on the national border. From there it is worth going left to Kronalm, whose summit platform offers extensive views.

The descent from Törl or Kronalm to Ofenalm gives a fine view of Rosskofel. From Ofenalm you take path no. 504 with a short descent and climb to Auernigalm, then back to Nassfeld. Part of the route is also suitable for mountain bikes.

Sonnenalpe Nassfeld - Winkelalm

Difficulty: easy route, suitable for families with children

Route length: 4.2 km

Duration: 1 hour

From the Nassfeld pass you set off on the Promenadeweg, west of the Nassfeld lake heading south. A short stretch along the dam, and then follow the sign for Winkelalm across wetlands and landslides towards the SW.

After reaching the forest road, just past the former barracks turn right on a gentle slope, past prominent rocks, and you reach Winkelalm, which lies in a clearing. Here you can climb Malurch or head towards Winkelscharte and over the via ferrata to Rosskofel.

It would now be possible to head towards Austria and Madritsche, but this is a fairly steep section. You go back along path no. 433 to the former barracks and then along the Nassfeldstrasse to the starting point.

Auernig-Höhenweg (und Geo-Trail)

Difficulty: easy route

Route length: 5.4 km

Duration: 3 hours

From the car park at the border crossing you follow road no. 403 past the Nassfeldkirchlein towards Watschiger Alm. After about 300 m you turn off road no. 403 to the right, steeply uphill to Auerniggipfel, and again steeply uphill to Großer Auernig.

You then descend below the summits of Garnitzenberg and Gugga to Garnitzentörl. The route runs along the Karnische Höhenweg no. 403. The trail then continues as no. 411 to the top station of the Gartnerkofel chairlift and leads you back to the Nassfeld pass.

Gartnerkofel - Sonnenaufgangswanderung

Difficulty: moderately difficult route

Route length: 3.2 km

Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes

The hike leads along the Garnitzenweg to Garnitzenthörl, with a short break at the top station of the Gartnerkofel chairlift. From there across the piste to the top station of the FIS lift towards the summit of Gartnerkofel.

At Watschiger Alm a hearty mountain breakfast with coffee and Carinthian Reindling awaits you!

TIP: If you want to experience the sunrise, you have to jump out of bed early! Standing on the summit of Gartnerkofel (2 195 m) as the sun floods the surrounding mountains with shimmering golden light is always an unforgettable experience!
